About the Poet, Dominic Campbell

"I was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and I am very proud of my North East roots. I come from a background of descendants of miners and soldiers. My Grandfather was very military and he was originally a serving member of the Northumberland Fusiliers until he eventually transferred in to the Royal Marines. Unfortunately it wasn't the life for me even though I enlisted in to the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and then the Royal Artillery.
Strangely, I have never considered myself as a poetry reader or writer but after toying around with some stories I eventually wrote 'Lost in Paradise' which is now sitting on a shelf dusting away, never published. I began to write poetry in that story, describing the way a young man felt about an island he was stranded on. Then I went on to a poetry site and added the poems. I never thought I would ever receive any feedback but I was proved wrong. The response was enormous and the more I wrote the more people were enjoying my work. My published book A Picture of Auschwitz came about due to recurring dreams about a movie entitled 'Exodus'. I was only a lad of 11 or 12 and the scenes depicted within the movie were so harrowing and horrific for a lad of that age. I began to write about scenes that I had dreamed of, putting myself into the piece of poetry. The first and original poem was A Picture of Auschwitz, which
received so many responses, I couldn't count them all. - Words of Dominic Campbell

Red Coat

A beautiful child ran passed me today
The world seemed silent and still
Her golden locks from her head, they flowed
As she skipped and played at will
A coat of scarlet to match her cheeks
So rosy and flushed they seemed
Her eyes of laser they seem to shine
Smiles of sunshine she beamed

Running and skipping regardless of woe
The men of darkness denied
Her being as she ran by their feet
No orders to her they cried
A city of dead, she past them by
Oblivious to the wrong and the right
The coat wasn't red so people thought
It was meant to be white

For it was the blood of the little girl
Was running as she was in fright
Oblivious why she was in pain
Blood was red upon white
Oh such a pity, a shame for beauty
Destruction of God's own dove
And now the child was at His door
Unwanted now she asks for his love.
